Dr Steve Wilkinson – Group Medical Director

Steve started working in mental health services as a trainee General Practitioner, changing to work exclusively in mental health services and now has over 25 years’ experience working in both community and hospital settings.

He completed specialist training in the Psychiatry of Learning Disability in the North East and went on to be a Consultant Psychiatrist at Prudhoe Hospital where he helped support people leaving long stay hospitals, moving to live in community services. Whilst at Prudhoe Hospital Steve worked both as Clinical Director for Learning Disability services and College Tutor, being a trainer for both junior and senior psychiatry trainees. It was at Prudhoe Hospital that Steve trained in acquired brain injury rehabilitation services, a role he then worked in as a consultant.

Leaving the NHS Steve has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director for national providers of Mental Health and Learning Disability services. His roles have included being Medical Director whilst also acting as the Responsible Officer, he helped recruit and develop a strong group of clinicians to deliver a comprehensive range of clinical services in both hospital and community settings. He is also trained and experienced in the diagnosis of Autism using standardised assessment tools.

He is looking forward to working with the team at Malsis to develop a wide range of clinical services across the different settings provided. He is committed to ensuring that people using the service receive the highest quality, outcome focused care in the least restrictive of environments.
