Dr Qayyum has worked in the NHS and independent sector at consultant level for nearly two decades. He has worked as substantive consultant in Bradford, Hampshire as well as in Southwest London. He holds Specialist Registration in general adult psychiatry.
His work experience includes many years of working in general adult psychiatry both in in-patient as well as in out-patient settings. At the same time, he has worked extensively in forensic settings in low secure and medium secure services and assisted courts as an expert witness. He has also been a consultant in NHS and independent sector Psychiatric Intensive Care Units and worked in the Tertiary Psychosis Unit in West London NHS Trust, which took patients from across the UK.
Dr Qayyum has been an accredited educational supervisor in the NHS and has helped NHS trusts in their restructuring efforts and pioneered work with a London NHS trust in establishing novel in-patient services.
Dr Qayyum continues to strive for clinical excellence in delivering patient care. His other interests include exploring Theories of Consciousness with emphasis on Biological (Neural) Correlates of Consciousness, Quantum Physics and Cosmology.
