Marie is a Registered Learning Disability Nurse with over 30 years’ experience in learning disability and mental health services in the public sector, which includes extensive partnership working with health and social services and working in secure services from low to high secure settings. She gained an MSc in Learning Disability Studies form Birmingham University in 2000.

Marie worked for 7 years as a Senior Nurse within an NHS Learning Disability Directorate during which time she developed extensive clinical experience related to people with learning disabilities and associated complex needs, including challenging behaviours. She led the achievements of positive clinical outcomes related to reductions in behaviours that challenge and improvement in quality of life through working directly with Service Users and through facilitation of staff teams. She was a physical interventions trainer and undertook a Nursing scholarship in LA researching positive approaches to challenging behaviours.

Marie was an HNS General Manager for 7 years, latterly within the National High Secure Service for Women. She has a proven track record of successful leadership and management of demanding services and some key achievements are significant positive improvements in regulatory compliance, sickness absence, Service User activity, financial and staff supervision.

Marie has worked in the independent Mental Health and Learning Disability sector for 10 years, in a range of senior roles and has contributed to the delivery if effective services, that have achieved improvements in Service Users’ experience.

Marie holds the C&G 730 Adult Teacher’s Certificate and has extensive experience in developing and delivering high quality clinical and leadership training to a range of health and social care organisations. She facilitated the Department of Health Nursing Leadership Programme for 4 years across a range of NHS organisation.

Marie’s passionate about promoting quality in practice that ensures the Service Users get the best possible service and staff receive positive leadership to deliver this. She has worked with a number of independent sector organisations to support ‘turnaround’ and has achieved significant sustainable results.
